Interestingly, we found this patch was actually included on our game CD, but the games help files and documentation make no mention of it, a real mystery indeed! Note – There are several reprintings of this game. If you find that our replacement installer doesn’t work with your copy of the game, please let us know in the comments. The installer is really simple and chances are we’ll be able to solve the problem for you. Patching We were able to locate one patch for the game that claims to fix compatibility problems with DirectX 8. On our Windows 8 machine the game didn’t seem to require patching, but during testing on our Windows XP VMWare virtual machine the game did struggle to play some video cut-scenes.

If you need to, you can download the patch. If you installed the game with our replacement installer, the patch is already installed for you.

You can also revert to the unpatched version of the game if you need to. To do so, browse to the games installation folder (C: Games Scooby-PhantomOfTheKnight by default) and make a backup of the “Scooby.exe” file before deleting it. Now, rename “Scooby.old” to “Scooby.exe”. There are no other options to configure after installation, so simply start the game and start snooping around the castle. Troubleshooting and known issues Problems saving games – Like many older games, Scooby Doo – Phantom of the Knight places its save game files in the same directory that it is installed to. This can cause problems on more modern versions of Windows as programs are not normally permitted to write to the program files directory. To avoid this problem, you can install the game to an alternate location.

Our replacement installer will use “C: Games Scooby-PhantomOfTheKnight” for instance. You can also manually edit the permissions on the games folder. A tutorial on editing folder permissions is available. Videos fail to play – If you get sound but no picture during some cutscenes on the game, try installing the DirectX 8 patch.

I just bought Scooby Doo – the glowing bugman, and Scooby Doo – showdown in Ghost Town, and I’m having trouble installing them both on Win7 professional, any ideas? Neither will play commercials or an introductory video, in the beginning, thinking that might be a little off? Anyways, when you start the game you get to the main menu, where you can press play /uninstall / etc.

When you press play on “showdown”, the game closes down and nothing else happens. When you press play on “the bugman” you get to sign in with a saving name, and then that game closes down as well.

Scooby can use his snout to sniff out clues, and Shaggy can use weapons found throughout each mystery. Scooby Doo Mystery has a bunch of brainteasers that'll puzzle the most hardened sleuth. The graphics are just like the show and the music really creates an eerie mood. It even has Shaggy and Scooby talking in key segments. The look of the TV show is captured wonderfully, from Shaggy's walk to Scooby's dialogue. However, watching the cartoon is a much more exciting way to enjoy these elements. What Scooby suffers from is a slow interface that has no place on a gaming console. It takes forever to choose Talk, Look, Use, etc. And then click on the proper item which ultimately makes you not want to play.

The idea is a good one, solve one or two mysteries with the hapless Shaggy and Scooby, but the application of the idea was done in an uninventive old format. If you have the patience to wade through the slow interface, there are puzzle elements, humor, and surprise endings that reward you, but the amount of reward you get isn't worth the amount of pain this game causes. ProTip: To get clue points, take new objects to Velma whenever you find them. Hop inside the Mystery Machine with Shaggy and Scooby. You guide the pair through a series of side-scrolling mysteries, getting clues from Freddy, Scooby snacks from Daphne, and the Mystery Status from Velma.

Bonus games like the 'Wac-A-Monster' or 'Make a Scooby Sandwich' help you. The characters are successfully re-created, and the monsters will scare the pants off you. Although there isn't much action, the backgrounds are detailed.
